Winter Solstice 2002 – The White Dragon of Winter
The Storyteller Enters

"Gather round young and old for on this night there's a story to be told!"
"It is the longest night of the year. The death and rebirth of the sun!"
(as he speaks there is the burning of a large paper mache sun)
"The old sun has burnt out!"
"and left only a seed wich will grow into a new sun by morning and rise again."
"But the seed is missing and without the seed no light can return to the land!"
"What should be done? Who wold know how to find such a secret thing?"
A tiny multicoloured fairy jumps from the bushes
"The White Dragon Of Winter would know she is ancient and wise!"
"Where would we find such a magnificent creature?"
But the fairy is gone dissapeared into the night
Just then another fairy jumps from the bushes holding a torch in hand
"I know where she is follow me"..........
And so the solstice adventure begins........
A crowd of about 100-150 people are led on a short hike through the wilderness of the Canadian mountains.
Following the torch weilding Storyteller to adventure and several colourfull vienette preformances
seeking the White Dragon Of Winter.
Poetry, Native Flute, Songs and preformance all give clues to the whereabouts of this ancient creature.......

Once found The White Dragon Of Winter Is approached by the Storyteller.
Asking the whereabouts of the seed of the new sun!
"Why I planted it in the Yule Log of course!" says the Dragon
"Now all it needs is for you all to make wishes for the new year"
"That way the sun will have somthing to grow towards"
The crowd all wishes on the yule log
then the Storyteller says a blessing to the new sun and plants the log in the fire!
The Dragon then shares her "treasure" with the children (organic treasure shaped ginger cookies)
The festivities go on into the night with fire dancing, chanting around the fire and potluck......
